A faster aggregation for 3D fast evanescent wave solvers using rotations
نویسندگان
چکیده
A novel technique to accelerate the aggregation and disaggregation stages in evanescent plane wave methods is presented. The new method calculates the six plane wave radiation patterns from a multipole expansion (aggregation) and calculates the multipole expansion of an incoming field from the six plane wave incoming field patterns. It is faster than the direct approach for multipole orders larger than one, and becomes six times faster for large multipole orders. The method relies on a connection between the discretizations of the six integral representations, and on the fact that the Wigner D-matrices become diagonal for rotations around the z-axis. The proposed technique can also be extended to the vectorial case in two different ways, one of which is very similar to the scalar case. The other method relies on a Beltrami decomposition of the fields and is faster than the direct approach for any multipole order. This decomposition is also not limited to evanescent wave solvers, but can be used in any vectorial multilevel fast multipole algorithm. 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Motion-induced radiation from electrons moving in Maxwell's fish-eye
In Čerenkov radiation and transition radiation, evanescent wave from motion of charged particles transfers into radiation coherently. However, such dissipative motion-induced radiations require particles to move faster than light in medium or to encounter velocity transition to pump energy. Inspired by a method to detect cloak by observing radiation of a fast-moving electron bunch going through...
متن کاملEvanescent-Wave Gas Sensing Using an Integrated Thermal Light Source
The last years showed an increased request for miniaturised, CMOS-compatible gas detectors. In contrast to sensors utilizing metal-oxide chemical interfaces, optical strategies are potentially faster and more robust. Recently we demonstrated CO2 detection by evanescent-wave absorption in the mid-infrared using a combination of an external laser source and silicon waveguides based on CMOS techno...
متن کاملSurface delivery of a single nanoparticle under moving evanescent standing-wave illumination
We study the delivery of a submicrometre-sized spherical dielectric particle suspended in water and confined in an evanescent field in the proximity of a glass–water interface. When illuminated by a single evanescent wave, the particle is propelled along the glass surface by the radiation pressure. Illumination by two counter-propagating and coherent evanescent waves leads to the formation of a...
متن کاملDirect and Inverse Medium Scattering in a 3d Homogeneous Planar Waveguide
Time-harmonic acoustic waves in an ocean of finite height are modeled by the Helmholtz equation inside a layer with suitable boundary conditions. Scattering in this geometry features phenomena unknown in free space: resonances might occur at special frequencies and wave fields consist of partly evanescent modes. Inverse scattering in waveguides hence needs to cope with energy loss and limited a...
متن کاملDetection of Fuel Adulteration in Real Time Using Optical Fiber Sensor and Peripheral Interface Controller
Detection of fuel adulteration in real time is the most important need of the world as it generates the hazardous effects on the environment, living and nonliving things. Various automotive users and fuel providers may mix kerosene in petrol and diesel. Adulterated fuel increases air pollution, as well as reduces the performance of vehicle engines. Such a malpractice in fuel is prevailing becau...
